Who, what, where, when, why, and how — chances are, you’re familiar with these questions. But what about when it comes to lofty questions? And what do they even have to do with your cancer journey?

Well, friend, lofty questions can help transform your life. And when you use it correctly, it can the one of the most empowering ways to help crank up the level of self-love (which we all know is much-needed when you’ve got cancer).

So what do you need to know about lofty questions? Here’s a basic rundown of what it is and how to use them.

What are lofty questions?

To put it simply, lofty questions are positive affirmations in question form. They start with “Why…” and help find answers, insights, or solutions that you may be searching for.

Daily abundance affirmations, as you may know, are positive phrases or statements to help flip the script on negative thoughts and get you start feeling worthy. It could be used to motivate yourself, encourage positive changes, or boost your self-esteem.

A 2016 study looked into how self-affirmation activates brain systems. The researchers found that those who used positive affirmations showed “increased activity in key regions of the brain’s self-processing and valuation.” To put it simply, these individuals were able to restore self-competence by reflecting on their self-worth.

Now, positive affirmations are supported by the Law of Attraction where positive thoughts bring positive results (and vice versa with negative thoughts). Lofty questions, on the other hand, are supported by the Law of Resonance where the vibration you send out with attract back energies with the same resonance.

Shifting your thoughts is one thing, but how do you shift your vibes?

Simple: lofty questions.

How do lofty questions work?

By asking lofty questions, you stimulate your subconscious mind to find the answers to your questions. You ask the question “Why…” and the Universe, in all its love, responds to our request.

Here’s an example given by Christie Marie Sheldon, an acclaimed energy healer, on Mindvalley’s YouTube:

Think of a pink elephant.

And what did you do? Obviously, you thought of a pink elephant. That’s what popped in your head. Not a blue, green, or purple elephant, but a pink one.

So whatever you tell your mind to focus on, it’ll focus on that.

This goes for the good and the bad.

Take your cancer as an example. You may ask, “Why does this always happen to me?” Or “Why is life so hard?”

“Those type of questions are stopping you from getting what you desire,” says Christie. “They are stripping away, just literally deleting your manifestation powers.”

In short, the questions that you’re throwing out into the Universe is being answered in the way that you phrase it. It’s what Christie explains as “sticking your head into negative, no-win, unhealthy, lower vibration energy.”

This is where lofty questions can help.

3 main benefits of lofty questions

Asking lofty questions has its benefits, no doubt. For starters, here are three of them:

  1. Get out of emotional states. By shifting your subconscious mind from focusing on the negative all the time, lofty questions help find the positive instead. You no longer see things as “Why do bad things always happen to me?” Instead, you see things as “Why is my life filled with abundance?”
  2. Discover new possibilities. With a newfound look on life, these questions encourage an intuitive higher energetic frequency. In turn, it allows your subconscious mind to find creative answers to the questions you send out.
  3. Live the life of your dreams. Lofty questions are a roadmap away from your emotional self into your most authentic self. It’ll help guide you towards that life of abundance you seek.

This particularly helps when you’ve got a “I could potentially die” disease like cancer. It helps change your perspective from your current reality to all the possible goodness of life.

How to create lofty questions

There’s no really right or wrong way to create lofty questions. However, if you need a little help, here are a few tips to get you going.

1. Make sure they’re positive

Remember that you’re trying to attract abundance, good vibes, and all that jazz. So make sure the questions you’re throwing out there are positive. It’s the key aspect of lofty questions.

So go with “Why do things always work out for me perfectly?” instead of “Why am I always sh*t out of luck?”

2. Start with “why”

The word, by definition from Merriam-Webster, is “for what cause, reason, or purpose.” It gives meaning and insight to your experiences in life. And what’s more, it gives you clarity behind what you truly want in life.

3. Get into a relaxed state

You can ask lofty questions at any time of your day. However, one of the best times to do it is when you’re relaxed, like in a state of meditation.

This state gives you the opportunity for self-reflection. And in this process at taking a closer look at yourself, you’re better able to recognize your thoughts, feelings, values, and beliefs for what they really are.

More than just a statistic

I can’t say I’ve ever used lofty questions. However, I’m incredibly familiar with positive affirmations.

When I had cervical cancer, there were definitely days when I had trouble getting out of bed. Not because I didn’t want to, but because my body just wasn’t having it. It was so tired from all the hospital treatments.

One day, I woke up and caught myself saying “You can do this” repeatedly. I don’t know how or when it started, but it felt so natural like I’d been saying it for years.

From then on, I would realize that I’d be saying it to myself on my way to my treatments or when my vagina felt super uncomfortable due to all the radiation to that part of my anatomy.

And you know what? It helped — 100%.

Now, with lofty questions, I haven’t really tried it out. But if it’s as powerful as Christie Marie Sheldon says it is, then, without a doubt, I believe that it would’ve better boosted my morale on those days that I hated the world.

Knowing what I know now, I hope you try out lofty questions for the betterment of your mental health. And if you want to connect with someone who’s gone through what you’re going through, feel free to do so. I’d love to hear from you.
